Syracuse the city with potential

GEOGRAPHY
Syracuse ranks in the top 10% of "Best Places to Live" according to the Places Rated Almanac. Syracuse, Onondaga County, is positioned in the geographic centre of the New York State putting it within only five hours of nearly every major eastern metropolitan area, including New York City, Boston, Toronto, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. Flying to and from Syracuse is made easy by the accessibility of Hancock International Airport located just six miles north of the city. The area is a combination of rolling hills, tranquil lakes and picturesque forests; the city has a total area of 25.6 square miles, including 0.6 square miles of water and 890,000 trees.

ECONOMY
Syracuse enjoys an employment rate that is growing faster than any other city in Central New York. DestiNY USA, the 2.5 billion dollar complex currently under construction, features a mix of retail, entertainment, technology and science and is expected to create more than 122,000 jobs, add more than 6.1 billion dollars to the Upstate New York economy and generate 92.7 million tax dollars for Onondaga County. The greater Syracuse area has been virtually untouched by the housing downturn.

EDUCATION
Ten colleges and universities serve Syracuse and its surrounding areas including Syracuse University, LeMoyne College and the State University of New York Medical University to name just a few. Syracuse University, a major research university and Syracuse’s largest employer, is located on University Hill. It had an enrolment of 19,082 for the 2006-2007 academic year. Eighteen public schools and a number of private and parochial schools make up the elementary and secondary school system with many of the schools being nationally recognized for their programs.

EMPLOYMENT
Today the Syracuse area has many small employers and a few larger employers, which provides for a certain amount of stability. Additionally, eight of the area's top eleven employers are in education or the service industry, which tend to be much more stable than the manufacturing industry.

LEISURE
There is much to see and do in Syracuse and the surrounding Central New York region to fit any age or preference. Whether you want to "shop 'till you drop" at the Carousel Center which is also the home of the DestiNY USA project, visit the elephants at the renowned Rosamond Gifford Zoo, witness a masterpiece at one of the areas 40 museums or join thousands of other impassioned fans watching NCAA Division One basketball and football at the 50,000 seat Carrier Dome.
For the outdoor lover the area features more than 50 state, county and city parks including several nature centers along with 40 golf courses, more than any other area in the Northeast. Winter snows transform the rolling hills into a perfect playground for winter sports enthusiasts who take advantage at one of the areas five major ski resorts.
Outdoor festivals include the Renaissance Fair held every year in nearby Sterling along with locally held Jazz Fest, the NYS Rhythm and Blues festival and CNYBA Bluegrass Festival. Syracuse hosts many special events including the New York State Fair, the longest running state fair in the country which annually attracts more than one million people and the New York State Special Olympics.

So, why invest in Syracuse? Here are six reasons: Location, demand, growth, stability, value, opportunity.
